Black Down - Burrington Combe

Directions
- Burrington Combe is on the North side of the Mendips, near Blagdon and Charterhouse.
- Post Code: BS40 7AT (This is for the café at the bottom of the Combe).
Car Parking
- There are two car parks at the top of the Combe. A large car park on the left-hand side and the other is a layby further up the road on the right-hand side, before the cattle grid.
- We generally, park on the right-hand-side of the road near the Black down 'AODB sign'.
- Car parking is free and on some days an ice-cream van is at the lower car park.
Notable Information
- There are no dog poo bins on the walk or at the car parks.
- Dogs are required to be on a lead when getting in and out of your vehicle, as it is a busy road.
- If it has been raining, prepare for a muddy walk! Wellies or walking shoes are generally required.
- The area has wildlife here there and everywhere; free roaming ponies and cattle as well as deer.
Walk Outline
- The walk starts up the lane, past a house on the right-hand side. This is the start of a steady incline, which is only for a couple of minutes at a steady pace.
- Once past the gate onto Black Down the dogs can be let off the lead.
- There are multiple walks to choose from. Brunel gets to choose and whichever he decides on, off we go... generally straight up!
- Once we reach the top of the hill, we take a right and head for the trig point! Apparently there is a geocache somewhere near the trig point; however, you will have to be lucky to find it! Don't forget though, if you haven't touched the trig you haven't made it to the highest point (it's a Somerset thing!).
- Enjoy the views, the wildlife and explore! if you select the long walk you will cross two streams, whereas the shorter walk just takes in the one stream.
