Mendip Challenge 10 Miles
Sunday 4th June 2017

Today started off normally – Jade (the human) went off to do her normal ding donging (bell-ringing as she likes to call it!) and wake up everyone, whilst I was able to turn over and have another 40 winks. When Jade comes back from ding dong it is then time to take my Humans for a walk. I was thinking of a beach or wood walk but no, the Human’s overruled me and decided on a charity walk for ‘Weston Hospice Care’ instead.

I thought okay, this is going to be new and interesting new but why do I have to wear my Halti-lead, I ask? I’m a good boy!

Off we went! I had a great journey in the car to Uphill beach! Woohoo I thought as they opened the car. This must be a beach and ball walk! But no! We’re heading in a different direction. Off to a ‘School’ apparently and it seems it is where the little humans go from Monday to Friday! My Big Human says I’m not allowed in there and so I have to wait outside. This is really odd if you ask me, as me, I love little humans! They play ball and stroke my belly. What more could I ask for!

We got into a really big car and my human made me do something very strange?!? The big car had lots of seats and... I wasn’t allowed to sit on any of them! I had to sit on the floor, hmpff... BORRRRRRRRRRRRING! And off we went on another drive. This is not what I call walking the human at all!

I do though get to look out of the window along the way and WOW! I could see us arriving at one of my most favourite of all walks - Kings Wood! The very big car stops and everyone gets out but then it leaves! I looks up at my human - how we getting home then, Human? It looks back at me ‘we are going to walk home’…. WHAT!!!! Goodness gracious! I know I can probably make it; but, what about you human? And more importantly what about my little Yorkie sister, Dusty!

TSK! Here goes. Right – We’re in the woods, now, so please, please, please get me off this lead and let me ‘Go Dog-style’. I’m good, I’m sitting, looking regal (as always); but no! the Human keeps me on the lead. Apparently to pace my walk – seriously!

Can you believe it I walk up Crooks peak from Kings Wood... but not to the top of it! We go round the right hand side towards Loxton. I walked that Human past beautiful fields, up hills, along the road across the motor way bridge, on the West Mendip way route all the way back to Uphill. She told me that it was a 10 mile walk and you know what, at the end of it I was given an amazing new collar; though the Human called it a medal. I love my medal! It’s really shiny and beautiful; and I am so proud of little Dusty, as on such little legs, she managed to walk the entire way and didn’t have to be carried. Not even once!

After a well-deserved dog drink; we had a drive back home. I had a cuddles and a mammoth sleep afterwards, with our humans. I think they’d earned them...

We had a wonderful day out together and our little Canine lead; hybrid-Human team raised £125 for the Weston Hospice Care!

Yawn! Time for another nap me thinks Zzzzzz!
